Stretching is an important practice that we should all aim to incorporate into our exercise regimes, as well as our daily lives. Most people are aware that stretching can help improve flexibility and help to prevent injury, but did you also know that it can improve your posture and reduce stress and body aches, alongside many other benefits. Here are 9 keys benefits of stretching: 1) Increased flexibility 2) Increased range of motion 3) Improved performance in physical activity 4) Increased blood flow to muscles 5) Improved posture 6) Help to heal back injuries and prevent further pain 7) Relieves stress 8) Calms your mind 9) Help decrease tension headaches Remember to never perform static stretches with cold muscles. Static stretching should be kept for post-exercise; these are the stretches that you hold for 10 to 30 seconds. Dynamic stretching involves active movements that stretch your muscles without holding the end position. This type of stretching can be used before activity to loosen up your muscles and can be incorporated as part of your warm up.

We are so excited to announce that we are now offering 'SHOCKWAVE THERAPY' as a treatment. Shockwave therapy is a modern and highly effective treatment option in orthopaedic and rehabilitation medicine. The term 'shockwave' refers to mechanical pressure pulses that expand as a wave in the body. In modern pain therapy, 'shockwave' energy is conducted from the point of origin to the painful body regions, where it applies its healing capacities.

Yesterday, Gill and I both attended a CPD event held at Norris Health in Cheshire. The event was hosted by VENN Healthcare and run by Paul Hobrough, physiotherapist and author of 'Running Free of Injuries'. We had a really informative, practical and motivational day learning how to run a successful Shockwave (ESWT) Service. The course involved both theoretical and practical elements, including the history of 'Shockwave Therapy', how shockwaves are administered into the body and some basic pathophysiology. We also took part in practicals, in which Gill perfected her technique on how to successfully treat the 7 main areas:
Paul talked in detail about technique and spoke about current thinking and how SWT impacts the treatment protocols for Plantar Fasciopathy, Achilles Tendinopathy, Patella Tendinopathy and High Hamstring Tendinopathy. He also touched on correct positioning, patient aftercare and exercises. VENN Healthcare consider this stage one course to be prerequisite for safe usage of the radial shockwave machine. Here at Outreach Physio, we pride ourselves on keeping up to date with the latest treatments and techniques. Both Gill and I thoroughly enjoyed the day and cannot thank both Venn and Paul enough for all their positive encouragement and support. We cannot wait to continue with our shockwave service back at our Moreton clinic. Book in today for Shockwave Therapy...... |
