Julie Lloyd - "I'm really a mermaid..."
I have always swam since I was a child and my Mum would often say that when she watched me swim in the River Mersey that “I’ll be across that river one day….”
In 2012 a friend asked if I’d like to take part in the Cross River Mersey Swim. I started training and in July 2013, I successfully swam from Liverpool back to Birkenhead. So, fifty years on Mum’s prediction came true. Since then I have swam lochs, lakes and rivers in several countries. I swim at least 3-4 times a week mainly in open water but in the pool as well. Each year I choose a swim to raise money for charity. To date I have raised over £2000 for various charities. I have completed relay swims of Loch Ness and Loch Lomond. In September 2017 I completed my longest swim to date in Loch Earn, Scotland it was 10km and took over 5 hours. I don’t know yet what my challenges are for 2018 but I look forward to them whatever they may be…. |
