We proud to set up another clinic in Prenton, this one specialising in using animals such as Alpacas, baby goats, miniature ponies, rhea, lambs and much more to help rehabilitate people who may have acquired brain injuries, spinal cord injury, and other physical injuries. Around the animals people are so much more relaxed, the session is a lot more informal and concentrates specifically on functional movements, such as sitting, standing, grasping, pincer grip, coordination, balance, proprioception and merely sitting and reaching.
Sitting - core control to provide a good base and neutral spine so shoulders and arm is in optimal position to reach out to the animal and legs in good position to stand up
Standing - working on standing balance, holding arm out to pet or feed the Alpacas, or to simply stand up to the fence and watch the babay alpacas playing with their Mum!
Grasping / pincer grip - used whilst holding the reins, preparing food, selecting food items to put into the bowl, opening hand with feed in for the animals
Co-ordination - Walking alongside the animals and holding their reins, or sitting / standing and reaching into the bowl, manipulate the food in your hand, turning hand over and bringing it towards the animal in the correct position for them to eat, working using both sides of the body wherever possible
